Dynamic Strength


In the area of dynamic strength the VÚKV a.s. testing laboratory performs buffing tests, fatigue tests, and dynamic tests of buffers.

 Fatigue Tests

The tests are performed in cooperation with the Dynamic Testing Laboratory of the Škoda Výzkum (Research Company). The VÚKV a.s. provides for the technical management of the test. The tests are performed in compliance with the following documents:
  • UIC 510-3,
  • UIC 515-4,
  • UIC 615-4,
  • ČSN EN 13749,
  • TSI,
  • Client methodology.
The purpose of the tests is to check endurance of the construction to a changing dynamic load. The tests may be performed on up to 18 simultaneously driven electro-hydraulic jacks with the maximum force of up to 630 kN. The control system is IST Labtronics 8800.


 Buffing Tests of Railway Vehicles and Dynamic Tests of Buffers

Impact tests and dynamic buffer tests are performed in compliance with the following documents:
  • UIC 566,
  • UIC 577,
  • Report of ERRI B12/RP 17,
  • ČSN EN 12663,
  • TSI,
  • Report of ERRI B106/RP 9


The purpose of the impact test is to verify dynamic strength of the vehicle structure, connection between the bogies and the vehicle frame and characteristics of the bumpers. The tests are performed in one of the following ways:

  • With prescribed longitudinal force applied,
  • With prescribed acceleration,
  • With prescribed speed (up to 23 km/hr).


The following quantities are measured in the course of the impact tests:

  • Speed of impact,
  • Impact forces,
  • Buffer stroke,
  • Acceleration on the impacted vehicle structure,
  • Stresses at the designated points of the vehicle structure.


 Running Strength Tests

The aim of the tests is to check, at carefully selected points, that the permissible dynamic stresses are not exceeded.


Running strength tests, in order to measure the effect of dynamic loading on the structure, the bogie and other parts of vehicles, are conducted on selected tracks in compliance with the following documents:

  • ČSN EN 12663, Art. 6.3 (28 0320),
  • ČSN 28 1300, Art. 5.2.5,
  • ČSN 28 1310, Art. 9.2.4,
  • ERRI B12/RP17,
  • TSI WAG,
The following quantities are measured:

  • Speed of the tested vehicle,
  • Acceleration on the structure,
  • Stresses at the selected points of the tested vehicle structure.
