Stationary tests EN 14363

Test Centre

The following tests are included in a group of stationary tests according to EN 14363:

  • safety against derailment on twisted track,
  • sway test,
  • torsional stiffness test.

Safety against derailment on twisted track

The VÚKV testing laboratory carries out safety against derailment tests using method 2 and method 3 according to EN 14363.

The tests shall be carried out in accordance with TSI LOC&PAS, TSI WAG, European standards, ERRI documents or according to special customer requirements.

The test according to method 2 consists of:

  • Wheel unloading test (twist test),
  • Measurement of guiding forces in a flat curve with a radius of 150 m.

The test according to method 3 consists of:

  • Wheel unloading test (twist test),
  • Measurement of bogie yaw resistance (X factor).

A portable twist test rig is used for the wheel unloading test (part of method 2 and 3). This test rig can also be used for the sway test (see below).

The measurement of the bogie yaw resistance (part of method 3) can be carried out on a yaw test rig (turntable) installed in a hall of the VÚKV test centre in Cerhenice or on a portable yaw test rig at the customer's location (e.g. production hall or depot).

The measurement of the guiding force in the flat curve with a radius of 150 m is carried out in the instrumented curve of the VUZ Velim Test Centre.

Portable twist test rig

The portable twist test rig moves the wheels of the vehicle under test in a vertical direction, simulating a twisted or superelevated track. During the test, the tested vehicle is positioned on the test rig, which is placed on the track. This test is usually carried out in the hall of the VÚKV test centre or at the customer's location (e.g., production hall or depot).

The twist test rig can be used to test vehicles or units of the following parameters:

  • different track gauges,
  • up to 16 axles (the number of axles can be further increased at the customer's request).

Sway test

The VÚKV test laboratory carries out the sway test (determination of displacement characteristics) using method 1 (on a stationary vehicle) and method 2 (while driving) according to EN 14363.

The tests shall be carried out in accordance with TSI LOC&PAS, TSI WAG, European and national standards, UIC leaflets or according to special customer requirements.

The method 1 test (stationary test) is performed using the same portable twist test rig as the test of safety against derailment on twisted track.

Torsional stiffness test

The tests shall be carried out in accordance with TSI WAG, European standards, ERRI documents or according to special customer requirements.

The result of the test is the torsional stiffness coefficient of the car body ct*
